‘Fro Fashion Week Successfully Debuts in New York!

Adds texture, color and celebration of fierce naturals to Fall NYFW 2013!

Using dark leathers, sumptuous brocades and unexpected pops of color, the ‘Fro Fashion Week Designers presented their vision for a GOTHIX Fall. MyMe Apparel, Aura Clothing, Renee Fredrique, Shannon Shenone, each presented 10 original looks for the runway show. Photo Credit: Anya Grant

Featuring hairstyling by BASIC and makeup artistry by Motives for LaLa, the Fall looks were all about drama. Huge hair with coils, kinks and spirals in daring fall hues such as plum and cider were accentuated with bordeaux lips and heavy, smoky eyes. A mainstay of ‘Fro Fashion Week is the celebration of curvy women–which comprise much of the ‘Fro Fashion Week demographic. “This show is about the everyday woman–who also happens to be a fierce naturalista,” says Valaira Sa-Ra, Executive Producer of the ‘Fro Fashion Show. “We celebrate this woman by featuring a plus-sized designer for our finale, which ends the show on a high-energy note!” This years’ plus-sized designer was “I AM Designs” by Antoinette Middleton, accentuated with gothic-themed accesories by Necessories by Raqui. A true realization of a vision, the Fall Fro Fashion Week marked the first time the show has travelled outside of its well-established Atlanta market. “It was always my dream to see Fro Fashion Week in New York during New York Fashion week, as a way to say to curly girls everywhere that your beauty is celebrated, too” says Tarin Boone. “It’s overwhelming to see everything come together that you’ve waited for.” The New York natural hair community came out to congratulate ‘Fro Fashion Week’s successful debut.
