Vintage clothing is highly coveted these days, and one of the easiest means by which to obtain it is to shop consignment. But not only can you score fabulous retro pieces, you can get pre-loved styles that are current trends as well.

A lot of people think that consignment shopping and thrifting are the same, but they’re actually a bit different. With thrifting you can find some awesome items, but if you’re not careful, you could also end up with something not so great, since thrift stores accept donations of pretty much anything (with the exception of some higher end shops). Consignors, on the other hand, are looking to make money for their pristine items, so they’re apt to make sure everything they attempt to sell is lovely and cared for–something that will be desired.

So why do you want to shop consignment?

1. It’s less expensive. Who doesn’t want to find an amazing dress for a third of the retail price? Part of the excitement of shopping for many women is the thrill of the hunt, and scoring a great deal.

2. Items will be in better condition than you think. Some worry about the “second-hand” of it all but most consignment shops have detailed policies about what condition items must be in to be acceptable. If it is dirty, stained, torn, worn, etc.–chances are: they won’t want it either.

3. The opportunity to score pieces from designer catalogues that you might not be able to get otherwise. Let’s face it–luxury comes at a price, but it’s more likely to be one you can afford when you shop consignment and out of season.

4. One-of-a-kind finds that you won’t see any other diva in on the street. Finding those consignment jewels gives you the opportunity to create a truly unique signature style, based on a mix of current and retro pieces.
